This style was developed by Grandmaster Winchell P.C. Woo and is based on the principles of Hung Gar Kung Fu. As an internal energy focused form, it compliments the hard, external energy within Kung Fu training. The form interweaves the 5 classical Chinese elements of Metal, Water, Wood, Fire & Earth and incorporates several animal forms. Monthly & More Frequently During Peak Season
Hung Gar lion dancing is a traditional Southern Chinese ritual performed at celebrations, like Lunar New Year, to bring good luck, ward off bad energy, and symbolize strength and courage. It’s not just a performance—it’s an extension of kung fu training, where the same strength, stances, and coordination are used to bring the lion to life. In this style, two people control the lion (head and tail), using low, grounded stances and strong leg work—just like in Hung Gar—to make the lion move with power and stability. The movements reflect kung fu principles: rooted balance, explosive energy, and precise control. The lion can express emotions like curiosity, playfulness, or aggression, all through coordinated motion. For students, it builds endurance, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of how their martial arts training applies to real movement.

Lion Dance Team
~ Percussion
No prior musical experience needed, just curiosity & openness!
In a traditional lion dance, the gong, drum, and cymbals work together to bring the lion to life. The drum acts as the lion’s heartbeat, controlling its movements and energy through different rhythms. The gong adds depth and power, emphasizing the lion’s presence and important actions. The cymbals provide sharp, expressive sounds that reflect the lion’s emotions, such as excitement or curiosity. Together, these instruments create a coordinated “voice” that guides the dancers and makes the lion appear alive and full of personality.
